Setting SMART Goals

With the end of summer in sight, many of us are looking back on the season and reflecting on how we did with our goals, and where we want to be in our health journey by this time next year.

Coach Crystal likes to think of goals through the S.M.A.R.T. framework. Your S.M.A.R.T. Goals should be:

- Specific

- Measurable

- Attainable

- Realistic

- Timely

We're going to jump right into the first and second secrets for achieving your weight loss goals this fall, which are to set Specific and Measurable goals.

Now, when September comes around, the change of seasons and our environment -- whether that be getting the kids back to school, or finishing up your summer vacation -- tends to sync up with the changes we want to create for ourselves for the final few months of the year. In January, a new chapter begins. Some would be tempted to get a gym membership and create a routine out of, say, hopping on the treadmill or stationary bike for an hour a day.

But if you're left to your own accord and not following any particular structure, this routine can become stale and lose the luster that drew you into making a change in the first place. That first week, you’re gung-ho...the second week you’re good...but where are you by the end of the month? You’re still picking out these random exercises from Instagram or Facebook, but are you really sticking to it long enough to see any results? How can you measure your success, so that you know where you want to go and how you’re getting there?

With our 8-week Little Black Dress Challenge, our measurements start before the challenge even begins! We take your weight, girth measurements, and body fat, as well as the indispensable "Before" pictures. Throughout the challenge, there are checkpoints to help keep you on track, a workout calendar, nutrition plan and accountability program.

Believe it or not, the numbers on the scale are not the most important measurement. In fact, Coach Crystal encourages members not to weigh themselves every day. Other measurable units that matter at R3 are choices like: Did I work out the number of times I agreed to in my Accountability Contract? Did I eat according to my nutrition plan? How long did I hold this plank today, compared to yesterday?

If we let the scale dictate us, as many women do, we risk being thrown back onto the weight loss roller coaster and not producing any sustainable, healthy lifestyle habits. These choices are what underpin our success, and it's all about being S.M.A.R.T. with how we measure our movements towards our goals.

Eight weeks goes by quickly, but our members have proven that it's more than enough time to make enduring changes and learn new healthy lifestyle skills. We're not about quick fixes. We're not about diets. We want to teach you practical, simple lifestyle habits that you can continue long after the 8 weeks are over.

And when the scale and body-tape measure come out at the end of the challenge, you will have numbers to be proud of.
